Living with Parkinson's
A practical guide to navigating daily life โ from managing symptoms and building routines to finding community and staying active.
Living with Parkinson's
Parkinson's disease is a neurological condition that affects movement, coordination, and many other aspects of the body. It occurs when certain brain cells that produce dopamine gradually become impaired.
Symptoms can vary widely from person to person. Common symptoms include tremor, stiffness or rigidity, slower movement, balance difficulties, fatigue, sleep changes, and anxiety or mood changes.
One of the most important things to understand is that no two Parkinson's experiences are exactly the same.
This is why many people describe Parkinson's as being like a snowflake โ each person's symptoms, progression, and challenges are unique.

- โขTremor or shaking
- โขMuscle stiffness or rigidity

Practical Strategies for Daily Life
While Parkinson's brings challenges, many people develop routines and strategies that help them manage symptoms and stay active.
Establishing Routines
Regular schedules for medication, meals, and sleep can make symptoms easier to manage. Consistency is one of the most powerful tools for living well with Parkinson's.
Staying Physically Active
Exercise is widely considered one of the most important tools for managing Parkinson's symptoms. Activities such as walking, stretching, cycling, or strength training can support mobility and balance.
Medication Timing
Working with a neurologist to optimize medication schedules can make a significant difference in daily functioning. Paying attention to when you take medications matters.
The Emotional Side of Parkinson's
Parkinson's affects more than the body. Many people also experience emotional and psychological challenges including anxiety, frustration, uncertainty about the future, and social isolation.
Connecting with others who understand the journey can make a tremendous difference. Many people find that sharing experiences with others living with Parkinson's helps them feel less alone.
The Importance of Community
Support from others who understand the condition can provide encouragement during difficult days, practical tips and strategies, shared experiences that normalize the journey, and motivation to stay active and engaged.
This is one reason The Club was created through the Doing Life Today platform.
Join The Club โA Platform Built for Parkinson's
Doing Life Today was created by Parkinson's advocate Bryce Perry. After being diagnosed with Parkinson's at age 40, Bryce began sharing his experiences publicly to help others understand the disease and learn how to live well with it.
Today the platform includes educational videos, podcasts about Parkinson's, a global community, and programs designed to support people living with the condition.
The mission is simple: empower people with Parkinson's to take back their lives.
